Back in the early eighties when Robotech came to the United States, it had already aired in Japan. The original Robotech anime was called Macross, Do You Remember Love. The Robotech that was released in the states was an adaptation of that original series. It incorporated most of the original concepts, however storyline and visual effects were slightly changed for the American public.
In the original Macross anime there are two very obscure valkyries that were shown. I will start with the first one. It is an orange trainer valkyrie that was known as VT-01 or Superostrich. In the American version, this is the valkyrie that Rick Hunter gets in trouble with on Macross island in the first couple of episodes. The Macross valkyrie (Superostrich) was used by Rick to take Minmei for a stroll in an asteriod field. Here are the two valkyries:
#1 is the Robotech Orange Valkyrie:
#2 is the Macross Superostrich:
Bet you didn't know that the orange Robotech Valkyrie had a fast pack did ya! Don't feel bad, neither did I!
The second valkyrie is by far more interesting. In the original Macross series this valkyrie had about five seconds of screen-time. It was call the VE-1 Elintseeker Valkyrie:
So now we have two very obscure valkyries that were not seen in the Robotech adaptation of Macross that was aired in the United States. The Superostrich was replaced by a, "cannon fodder" valkyrie with orange trim and the Elintseeker was replaced by a non-transformable AWAK fighter.
Now for the clencher. These two valkyries are available in toy form!!! They were originally released on the 1/55 Bandai/Takatoku Jetfire platform and later released by Bandai in model form. Yamato also released these two valkyries in the 1/65th scale form. The yamato version is very detailed, however it does require dissassembly to transform.
As I said before these two are also available in the 1/55 scale Bandai mold. Yes, they are available, they were produced and they are extremely RARE!!
The Superostrich will run you anywhere in the neighborhood of $1000.00 to $1500.00 dollars MISB. A near mint loose version will be less pricey, but don't be fooled. I have seen a loose complete Superostrich go as high as $500.00!!
The Elintseeker on the other hand is considered the, "Holy Grail" of any Robotech/Macross collection. The only Robotecvh/Macross item that is more rare is the Beta Fighter, which is nearly impossible to find. The Elintseeker will command a handsome $2500.00 pricetag if it is MISB. Loose they can reach into the $750.00 and up price range.
Here is a picture of each valkyrie as produced by Bandai:
