Ease of Use:
I got the Keeley Mellow Wah complete mod package that includes a cool looking blue led to let you know when the wah is engaged, a switch to turn on an extra fasel inductor that really is a blast, another switch that gives you control over the bass response, a volume knob that controls the mids as well as volume, a next to silent switching feature, and of course true bypass! Very easy to use and dial in Wah sounds that are out of this world! Just press and rock!
Sound Quality:
I am what you might call a Wah addict, I have several types of wahs including the Keeley Nova Wah which is most excellent as well. I play in the style of Joe Satriani (Joe uses a Cry Baby) meets Pink Floyd and this wah can do so much. It is a day and night wah from the stock version. I can get those low volume feedbacks going and use the wah maxed out (either heel or toe) to control the overall vibe. It can nail the Hendrix/SRV riffs that everybody likes, but I use the wah as an extentsion of fast runs and slow pinched graphic stuff as well. The sound is mellow and not overbearing. This replaced my Teese wah and I have zero regrets about getting this one. It is a high quality unit and has a ton of tone options so it gives you the ability to dial up a big variety pack of tones with a few switches which are great for live use as well.
Reliability:
All wahs under heavy touring use will eventually go down to quote Joe Bonnamassa! But this one seems that it can take a stomp or two and Keeley stand behind his workmanship! Time will tell! So far so good!
Customer Support:
Keeley Electronics is one if not thee finest builder/modder out there. Been dealing with the Oklahoma crew for a few years now and they are super stars! You send stuff in or order it from them new..and they send it out! I sent my DS-1 in for a upgrade and it came back fast and sounding fantastic also!
Overall Rating:
This is the wah to have on yer board. It can cover many styles becuase it is such a tweakable unit! The true bybass is cool and since it has a buffer in the wah you can really put it anywhere in the chain and get great results. It can sound downright wicked after a Big Muff.
I own a Teese, Vox and a Morley as well and they are collecting dust. After 30 years of this gear collecting saga I am getting down to a few prized possesions on my board and the Keeley Cry Baby is one of them. If you already own a stock Cry Baby send it to Keeley and let him breath new tone into that sucker! The hours you spend playing after getting it back will improve your playing and make you feel great. One of my better tone investments that I can recommend!
