A Ring Gauge and of course the rings themselves are made from metal and will be accurate to one another. But your fingers are not round. It can be difficult to obtain a proper fit and size. Your ring will fit proper and stay on your finger comfortably if you follow a few simple instructions.
The best method of determining your ring size is to use a RING GAUGE. This is the tool that will do the best job. Most people do not have a ring gauge just laying around the house so a fast trip to your local jewelry store should work. They should have this gauge tool. Most jewelry stores will size your ring finger at no charge as a service of the store. It only takes a few seconds and is almost "fool proof".You find that sizing can be whole sizes, half size and quarter sizes. Most larger men's rings will not need quarter sizes. If you are deciding to buy a large mans ring with a wide shank it is best to have the jeweler use a wide gauge that is used to size wedding bands. The thin gauge tools are best for ladies rings and small thin mens rings. Be sure the gauge is comfortable on your finger, even a little tight. Your hands and fingers can change size depending on the temperature in the room and time of year (hot and cold outside).
