I bought this air purifier before I really knew anything about purifiers - past what was contained in their advertisements. If I knew then what I know now, I would have saved myself the money in buying this thing.
You see, I didn't know at the time that "ionic" was another word for ozonator - heck, at the time I didn't even know what ozone was. Come to find out, ozone is a federally regulated pollutant and exposure to it can cause severe lung damage and even premature death. That's because it destroys our lung tissue. According to the American Lung Association, even a little exposure to ozone can cause wheezing, coughing, chest pain, and shortness of breath.
So, the ionic tower that I bought to mitigate my allergies, was actually making them worse and, if that wasn't bad enough, causing really bad side affects too. To add insult to injury, the thing was very noisy - rattling and buzzing like a power line - and it didn't remove odors like the sales man said it would.
I stopped using it after meeting with my doctor because of worsening allergies. That's when I found out about ozone. After some more research on the subject, just to make sure my doctor wasn't biased or anything, I threw the ozone generating air purifier out.
The lesson I learned here was not to buy an ozone generating air purifier and not to trust any company that was trying to tell me they were safe. The scientific, medical and consumer watch dog communities all agree, there is no such thing as safe ozone.
