4. Be particularly careful about noting which illustrators are featured on covers - notable names include Coles Phillips, Twelvetrees, Wyeth, W.T. Benda, etc.
5. Check for paper dolls in such magazines as McCalls and other publications. If they are supposed to be there but are missing, you won't have a happy bidder.
Finally, even though this isn't a research tip, be VERY careful about any magazines which have odor or mildew. I personally avoid them like the plague but some bidders will buy them, if they are rare enough. If you DO decide to sell them, be honest about any odor as well as discoloration of pages, fraying, etc. Check out online magazine GRADING guides and use them as a start for grading your magazines.
