Since many people are sensitive to odors in items, it's important to remove those odors beofre they leave your house.  

This can often happen if your house is smoked in or if you buy items that are second hand.  

But wash the item by hand or machine with a some 20 mule team borax.  

This is found in most stores where they sell laundry supplies.   In Wal-Mart it’s next to the color safe bleaches and bleaches.
