Pardon the Pun, the Key to buying a remote fob is to make sure it is the appropriate remote for the vehicle you are driving. In this article we will give you some ideas on how to select the correct fob (remote unit) and find the directions to program the fob.

In preparation you should find out several things while at your vehicle:

  • The manufacture date of you car which is on the drivers door frame.
  • Vehicle identification number (Vin) on the drivers door frame, left corner of the dash or in the engine compartment.

Then write down anything you may have from your existing remote unit:

  • Model or Parts number of the remote unit
  • The FCC code or frequency it broadcast at
  • The manufacturer of the unit
  • Does it broadcast in AM or FM
  • The Canada code, our northern relatives broadcast code
  • The model code of the battery

If you do not have a fob at all, contact your local dealership and ask the above questions. Forgive them if they do not have all the answers, but get as many as you can. At the same time ask the dealership the cost of the replacement part from them and how much they charge to program the remote to your vehicle. Most dealerships will program the remote for you relatively quickly and if you bring a coffee and a bagel you may find yourself leaving without any extra cost and a friend for life.

Keep in mind many vehicles have half year models, which is why you need the manufacturing date. The Infiniti line up had half year models for G20, Q45 and QX4. The J30, I30, I35, FX35 and FX45 have stayed consistent so far.

Most Infiniti Key fob models do have counterparts in the Nissan lineup, which may offer a less expensive alternative. The half year models will be harder to find and more expensive. Ford, Mercury, Jaguar and Lincoln share some similar units. Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Olsmobile and Caddilac share  some fobs. Lexus adn Toyota share many units. Most likely your vehicle shares a fob with an additional manufacturer.

Most fobs offer the ability of the consumer to program them. The seller usually will provide those directions at no cost. Personally I feel better when the seller has this information available as this will give you a better idea of their ability to offer a unit that actually works.

The Fobs at Kates Yarn Barn will in most part be left over from auto start conversions or from clients personnel vehicles. We provide the directions to program and stand behind the remote insuring that it will work.

You do need to be very careful about the origin of the Fob. With all the water down south their may be many bad units that look good floating around. Make sure the seller stands behind the remote and had a good Ebay rating.

Their are many Forums available to you online that ussually have a thread of questions and answers from folks similar yourself. It can be very rewarding to belong to a Forum as many have a resident technician willin to answer questions that you may have.

We hope you have found this forum helpful. feel free to send along any suggestions you may have or give us insight into what you have found to be a helpful forum.
