Reggie Bush - NFL's Top Draft Pick Reggie Bush
Reggie Bush is one of the top running backs ever to be drafted in NFL history, at least according to independent metrics and sports commentators. Bush grew up in San Diego, and he remains fiercely loyal to his home, often underscoring the numerals 619 on his face in paint as a tribute to his old San Diego area code. He played for the University of Southern California for several years before being drafted in the first round by the New Orleans Saints as a number-two pick.
Prior to signing with the Saints, Reggie Bush accumulated tremendous stats and awards. After the 2005 season, he was the top player for all-purpose yards per game and the fourth in overall rushing yards. Like fellow 2006 draftee Vince Young, Bush elected to forego his last year of eligibility to play in the NCAA to enter the NFL Draft.
Although Vince Young took home the top prizes at the 2006 Rose Bowl, Bush won the Heisman Trophy for 2005 with an incredible showing of first place votes--nearly 800. This count is just shy of O.J. Simpson's Heisman Trophy Award rout in 1968, when Simpson received over 850 votes.
Just before the New Orleans Saints drafted him, the shoe company Adidas signed Reggie Bush to a major endorsement package. He will promote cleats, football clothes, and general training gear for Adidas. Bush's physical prowess will stand him in good stead in the NFL--he's capable of doing two dozen 102-kilogram bench presses and running the 40-yard dash in just a little over 4.3 seconds. If Reggie Bush can help lead the Saints to a victorious season, his autograph just may become an NFL collector's item.
