Reggie Bush Jersey or Mario Williams Jersey? Who's the #1 NFL Draft Pick?

The debate will rage on until the 2006 NFL Draft begins Saturday morning... who will be #1 and who will dawn a Houston Texans Jersey ? USC's Reggie Bush or North Carolina State's Mario Williams? My feeling is that Reggie Bush is the supernatural talent and the lock for the number 1 draft pick - and that Mario Williams is being used as leverage (trade, contract, etc). But don't take my word - here are the thoughts of some experts (excerpts only):

NFLDraftCountDown on Reggie Bush: In most years there is a lot of intrigue surrounding the #1 pick and often times we don't know who it will be until just days or even minutes before the draft begins but that isn't the case this time around. In fact, late in the regular season the race for the worst record in the league had already been dubbed the "Reggie Bush Sweepstakes" by the media and fans. At this point it really isn't a question of if the Texans will make Bush the #1 overall pick but rather should they.

NFLDraftCountDown on Mario Williams:  If you ever needed to make a case for how drastically free agency can affect the NFL Draft the Saints signing of Drew Brees would probably be labeled as "Exhibit A". Everyone, including yours truly, had this pick as an absolute lock to be a quarterback, most likely Matt Leinart. That all changed when Brees was signed though and while the ultimate ramifications of the move have yet to be seen it has sent shockwaves through the league and really shaken up the top of the draft order.

Peter King: I talked to Paul Zimmerman late Sunday night, just before The Sopranos. Seeing as we're both Jersey guys, it's must-see TV for us. "Don't tell me something that'll make me change my mock draft,'' he said fearfully. "Please don't.'' I didn't. I told him what I knew, then I thought: If I had to do a mock draft right now, I would be sorely, sorely tempted to put Williams in Houston's spot, not so much because of Williams the player but because Bush will be harder to sign. That will be the big story as the week goes on.

Michael Smith: With the first pick of the 2006 NFL draft, the Houston Texans should not select running back Reggie Bush of Southern California. And my reason has nothing to do with the recent report that his family allegedly accepted extra benefits during Bush's junior season... They shouldn't trade down, either, or they might miss out on the player they should take. Mario Williams, the North Carolina State defensive end, should be the Texans' pick.
