While there has been quite a "stir" recently that has frightened many buyers - both new and veteran, about whether certain items that are called authentic David Yurman, are truly authentic or merely copies from a website out of China, I feel that if one does a little bit of research, he or she can reasonably ascertain the authentic from the mere copies. The first thing to do if you are unsure about an item, of course, is to contact the seller BEFORE you place a bid. If the seller is very vague, or worse, doesn't answer your questions, then, I personally would not bid on their items. Second, do a bit of homework! Check out that website in China (for eBay reasons I cannot mention the site's name here in this context) and also go to the Yurman website along with those for Neiman Marcus and Saks. If the item is on the China website but you can't find it anywhere else, then you can be reasonably sure that it's a copy and not authentic. If the item is on BOTH websites....ask MORE questions of your seller! Also, remember: Many beautiful and very valuable Yurman pieces have been "retired" - meaning that you won't find them on any of the websites, but the chances are very good that those pieces are definitely authentic Yurman - quite valuable and to be cherished!
