Recall Information: Be Informed about the Choices You Make
As a concerned parent, I'm here to show you information about 2 recalls on Baby Bjorn carriers.
***Please take a moment to vote YES if you found this information helpful, it will bring this guide closer to the top of the list so more parents and soon-to-be parents will be able to find out about this and make a SAFE CHOICE ! Thank you in advance and Best Wishes!***
I'm not a professional, and don't work for Baby Bjorn, but I always check my items before I list them to see if they are part of a recall (clothes, toys, carriers, slings, etc.). There are only 2 that I know of so far.
- As always, please check with the seller of your item as well as any government protection agencies, as I will not be held liable for anything.
- I would also urge you to ask for pictures from people who are selling with a stock photo....they may have used the latest picture from the website, but what you get may be very different.
- Also beware (because it happened to me and because I've seen it too) that some people steal other people's photos. I always state that my pictures are mine and are of the actual item. When in doubt, beware.....
- Most sellers are simply unaware of the recalls
- I have seen several Baby Bjorn Carriers lately (it's September of 2007 when I'm writing this) listed on ebay that are under recall. Sad, scary and true!
- Here is some information and pictures to help you make your decision to bid easier, and maybe your decision to list as well.
- If you have won a carrier already that you think might be under a recall, please contact Baby Bjorn, they are extremely kind and accomodating....they will send you whatever you need, and sometimes even a new carrier! And you don't pay for shipping it either, they will let you know what you need to send it to them for free!
RECALL #1 - LEG STRAPS AND BUTTONS TO MAKE THE LEG OPENINGS SMALLER FOR BABIES UP TO 2 MONTHS (THEY SAY 8-11 LBS) A retrofit kit is available free of charge from the Company!
It seems the leg hole openings are big enough that an infant could fall out through one of them!
AFFECTED CARRIER MODELS:
Classic (which has the snaps and toggles for fastening, and usually a white square on the straps that holds them together)
Original (which has the red and blue sliding buckle fasteners at the left and right side) (I think I've only seen one like this, most of them have the buttons and straps.)
Here is what to LOOK FOR when bidding and looking at pics:
Picture of the Leg Straps (small loops) on the Carrier Straps (this is an Original model, you can see the red and blue parts for the buckle)
Here is a picture of the body (the front piece) of the same Carrier, the buttons are hard to see, but they are right under the slide fasteners, and right at the arrows...:
Here is another picture from the other side (the inside):
And one more, just to be safe....see the button under the red buckle fastener, that's what you're looking for....
RECALL #2 Back Straps coming Unattached on Baby Bjorn Active Models
Please contact Baby Bjorn, they will have you send your straps in for repair, or will replace them, free of charge.
The Baby Bjorn Active is the only model affected by this.
Here are pictures of what to LOOK FOR:
There should be either or both :
Loops from the black plastic at the top of the Lumbar Support around the Straps of the Carrier
and / or
4 screws (I've seen silver and black ones) in the Black Plastic that holds the top of the Lumbar Support
This carrier has both, the straps are easy to see, but the screws aren't as they are very small.
In Closing
I took great pictures, though they didn't turn out quite as I had envisioned on this page (blurry writing, though they aren't like that in my computer.) When in doubt, ask your seller to provide you with more photos.
I pray this guide has been helpful, and that you are armed with the information you need to make a smart and safe choice for your precious little angel!
With that said, best wishes to you and yours!
