Really Dumb Automotive Design- Electrical Example

The arrow points to a fuse block on a 1996 Dodge Stratus. The location is a little bogus because it is only a few inches behind the radiator support but, that could be forgiven. Let's face it, there's not much room in the engine compartment of today's cars. The real problem is shown below this photo...

The real problem is this. First off, the fuse block is made of plastic. Well, what heck isn't at this point. The main problem is this, the fuse block is integrated with the main wiring harness!

That is, you can not buy the fuse block separately because it is one and the same as the main harness. Duh, who thought up that one? When this car is in a moderate front end impact and cracks this fuse block, guess what? What used to cost less than $100.00 now will run you a cool $1,000.00.
