Using Genesis Thick Medium
Creating the most realistic newborn babies of your reborn dolls entales many processes. With each their are many different methods & techniques. Some artists prefer to micro-root their dolls eyebrows while some prefer to paint them on or even draw them on with Sharpies.
My personal preference is painting, and then using the Genesis Thich Medium to create incredibly relistic brows that appear 3 Dimensional. The texture and structure of the hair in brows is very different from that of the hair on our heads. Eyebrows have a much shorter life than head hair & therefore are more coarse & thick near the base & center, but taper to a point at the end. This is a difficult look to acheive with mohair, and rooting the follicles in such a degree as to get them to lie flat can be quite a challenge.
As with all techniques, creating your babies eyebrows is a matter of personal preference, but I always like to at least give each method I can come up with a try, before deciding whether to continue using it, or rule it out.
What you'll need:
*Paints mixed to match babies hair- With Burnt Umber, Flesh Tones & Mars Black you can pretty much create a color that will perfectly coordinate with your babies locks.
* #10/0 Liner Brush
* Toothpicks
* Genesis Thick Medium
How to create baby brows:
* Using your liner brush, stir into paint mixture
* Turn the brush, while pressing the base of bristles to the side of the paint well & pulling towards you, to remove excess
* To prevent running, touch just the very tip of the brush to a cosmetic wedge & allow it to draw out the excess moisture
* Starting at the inside corner, paint fine lines in an upward/outward arch
* Use a toothpick is this same motion across the browline, to create the appearance of additional strands
* Repeat the prior steps 1-2 more times & then for the other brow
* Set with heat to 265 degrees Farenheit for 8 minutes
* Cool
* Using a toothpick, scrape the top of the thick medium to form a small bead- about 1/4 the size of a BB.
* Put the bead of thick medium on the inside corner of brow & use finger or wooden stick to spread across the brow
* Use a toothpick to carve out arched lines, using the same motion as when painting them. This creates the appearance of varying depth.
* Heat set to 265 Farenheit.
Your babies eyebrows should look something like this
Other Tips:
* You must make sure that your Thick Medium is set to the right temp. or it will come off
* Mohair & most doll eyes can go into the oven but synthetic materials can not- so while this step may be done after mohair is rooted, it must be done before synthetic eyelashes are placed or felt is inserted(if using for backing nostrils or ears).
