Real World Key West - MTV's Newest Real World
MTV's Real World began in 1992 and is currently in its 17th successful season. Over its run, it has been set in locales such as New York, Chicago, Seattle, New Orleans, Las Vegas, and Paris. MTV's newest Real World is set in Key West, Florida, and again brings together seven strangers to live and work together and have their lives taped.
Each season, the housemates are given a unique employment opportunity. When Real World visited Seattle, the roommates worked together at a local radio station, while the New Orleans cast worked for a television station. The Hawaii cast was tasked with operating a surf apparel shop, and the Austin cast documented the renowned South by Southwest music festival.
The Real World Key West cast was charged with promoting and starting up a Mystic Tan franchise. During the early episodes, the housemates purchase furnishings and furniture from Pier 1 to transform the empty storefront into an operational sunless tanning facility. In later episodes, viewers see the difficulties that the cast encounters in dividing up the work responsibilities and living with their coworkers.
In addition to the drama that viewers expect to see on Real World stemming from issues such as romantic entanglements and prejudice, MTV's Real World Key West season faced additional adversaries. A neighbor of the Key West house filed a lawsuit to stop the filming of the season, though this lawsuit was dismissed. In addition, the cast had to cope with one of the most active hurricane seasons that Key West has seen in recent years.
