Razor Scooter - A Guide to the Razor Scooter
The Razor Scooter is a relatively new phenomenon in childhood toys, not having been introduced until this century, but it has become as much a kid's favorite as the bicycle. There are two basic types of Razor Scooters, kick scooters and electric scooters. RazorUSA (owner of the Razor trademark) also makes electric pocket bikes, which are sometimes referred to as scooters.
Interestingly, the original Razor scooter was invented by the president of a bicycle company in Taiwan to help him quickly travel around his factory. Basic Razor kick scooter models are the A, A2, A3, and A4. Basic Razor electric scooter models are the E100, E200, and E300, although there are a number of additional electric scooters made by the Razor company. There is also a thriving market in Razor scooter parts and accessories (such as pads and helmets).
There are a number of adult fans of Razor Scooters, partly because they are portable, foldable, and convenient for going short distances, and partly because they are fun to ride. Braking is achieved by a rear friction brake, which presses down on the back wheel to slow or stop. In spite of their popularity and ease of use, parents who are purchasing Razor Scooters for their children should heed safety warnings.
Electric scooters can achieve significant speeds, and parents should be aware of how fast the scooter can go before buying one. Razor recommends that young children should not ride unsupervised, or without pads and helmets. Check with the owner's manual for more information on safety and use of Razor scooters.
