I just tried my new Rand 12-1/2 inch planer on a stand from summitcentral.  I recycle old wood to use for making custom, hand-painted signs.  Up until recently, I was using a hand-held planer.  WOW!  What a difference!  My hand-held planer would leave uneven "streaks" on the wood.  Additionally, I would have to sand, which is very time consuming.  The new Rand leaves the wood silky smooth and ready for painting.  I don't even have to sand it.  It saves me a TON of time and makes the old wood look better than new!  And if you've priced lumber recently, you can imagine how much money you can save!!!
