Rancilio is a terrific name in coffee grinders due to their reputation for building quality, long-lasting products. They manufacture the ever-popular consumer "Rocky" models and the consumer MD series. The MD series run quiet due to powerful motors providing plenty of low speed torque for precise and consistant grinding.  The motors are designed to be thermally isolated so as not to heat up the beans during grinding. The generous burr sizes insure they stay sharper for longer. Replacement parts, such as new burrs, 110 and 220 volt relays, and switches are readily available online from a multitude of sources.

The MD40 at 5.5x9.8x13.7inches (140x335x440mm) will fit under a normal (home) kitchen counter and is the smallest commercial grinder from Rancilio. The MD40 weighs 19.8Lbs (9Kg) and uses an 140W motor (same as the Rocky). Impressive 50mm Burrs made of tempered, hardened steel and rated for a minimum of one-thousand pounds of coffee before needing to be replaced (that's a minimum of 63,000 shots of espresso!). A 7gram espresso shot is produced in 8 seconds for 6.5Lbs of espresso per hour.

The MD50 is 6.1x14.1x20.6in (155x360x525mm) will not fit under a normal (18inch home) kitchen counter. The MD50 weighs a hefty 27.5Lbs (12,5Kg) and uses a 450W thermally-isolated motor. Large 64mm (2.5in) Burrs cut a shot of espresso every 3 seconds for 9Kg (20Lbs) per hour.

Both units hold 2.2pounds (1Kg) of roasted beans in the hopper and 2/3pound (300grams) (~40 shots) grounds in the doser.

The AT models (i.e. MD-50/AT) are Automatic models, meaning they keep the doser filled with ground coffee in a busy shop.

The MD80, Rancilio's largest coffee grinder is a behemouth at 8x16x24in (610x406x203mm). The MD80 weighs 48Lbs (22Kg) and uses a 950W motor. Gigantic 75mm (3in) Burrs [only the Mazzer Royal Grinder has larger, 83mm burrs in a commercial grinder] produce a shot of espresso every 2 seconds for up to 15Kg (31Lbs) per hour. The MD80 holds 3pounds (1.5Kg) of roasted beans in the hopper and 1Lb (~63 shots) in the doser.
