Hi, this is Jim Lee. I'm a musician, artist, eBay seller & buyer too. The purpose of this guide is to let new eBay users know of a very popular scam. Though I'm only talking about one specific type of scam in this guide, there are Tons of other scams going-on right now on eBay... read this guide to learn about other common scams.

A Very Popular Scam

Have you ever seen  a TV commercial where the announcer says really loud "GET IT FOR FREE" and then quickly and softly says "...just pay for shipping and handling"? Do you really believe that the company on the commercial is giving away their product at a financial loss?

Here's the scenario: You see an eBay listing with a price that's too low to be true... well, it probably is! Whether it's an auction-style listing or a Buy It Now listing, the price just doesn't seem right. If you look carefully, you may notice that the seller is charging a rediculous price for shipping... or perhaps, the seller won't disclose the shipping costs until After you've won the item. This type of scammer is preys on people's instinct to 'get a good deal,' while ripping-them-off with high shipping costs. This selling technique illegal according to eBay's policies... but the second that one scam listing is shut-down, three others pop-up.

Another variation of the scam above, that's a little less evil... but unscrupulous notheless goes like this: The seller lists products with a very-low Buy It Now price to avoide eBay's fees. Then the seller raises the shipping & handling costs (which, once again scams eBay - since they don't charge a percentage on shipping & handling). This type of seller-scammer earns a proft from the shipping amount. They take advantage of the buyer with the notion of a low priced item, and they abuse eBay's fee system. This type of practice hurts the whole eBay community in the long run.... buyers and sellers.

This is why, when I see one seller selling a product for $20 + $5 shipping, and another seller selling the same product for $5 + $20 shipping.... I Always buy from the seller without the baloney shipping practices. I URGE YOU TO DO THE SAME. Stop the scammers by not purchasing their products... when they aren't profiting from their schemes, eventually they'll stop.
