Many of the most common stains can easily be removed without damaging your antique Limoges porcelain. We have had great success removing stubborn food, plant and mineral stains after just one treatment!  Here's our secret: 

Fill a well-padded sink or dishpan with very warm water.  For each gallon of water, add 1/4 cup of OxiClean and 2 Tablespoons of dish washing liquid.  The warmer the water ~ the better it works.  Allow the ingredients to mix in the running water as the dishes begin to soak.  Depending on the stain, it can take up to 30 minutes.  Simply rinse with warm water and towel dry.  Deep stains (such as those found in crevices or difficult-to-see hairline cracks) may require subsequent treatments.  If so, just rinse and repeat.  You may also use this treatment to remove organic stains found in flower vases and tea pots ~ we have even had success cleaning antique Limoges clock cases and plaques!

Since it is always better to be safe than sorry.... for very old or elaborately decorated Limoges... test a small area with a cotton ball that has been dipped in the solution.  Hold it in place for several seconds; rinse and repeat to make sure your decoration is color-fast. 

This treatment is NOT RECOMMENDED for soft-paste porcelain, bone china, or porcelain that has not been kiln glazed.  We get the best results with traditionally fired, hard-paste antique Limoges porcelain dinnerware. 

For the record, we don't own stock in any of the products we recommend.  We like OxiClean, for example, because it is chlorine-free.  While other household cleaning powders remove stains, many contain bleach, ammonia, solvents or grit.  These products may NEVER be used safely on your fine china.  Finally, always read package directions carefully ~ many of the most common household cleaning products can be lethal when used together!
