I buy a lot of beautiful jewelry on Ebay for very nice prices. I see many items listed as 'engagement rings' that are NOT diamond or any other genuine stone. Remember, if an item of jewelry does not say genuine, or diamond, it probably will not BE. Be sure to ask questions before you consider buying.
I know there is an Asian 'store' on line that promises to send you genuine tanzanite for as little as .99, then, charges about $20 for a shipping fee. Common sense will tell you that no one is selling carats of genuine tanzanite for less than thousands of dollars. If you do buy 10K jewelry from this Asian company, be certain to order the white 10K gold advertised, as the yellow 'gold' is WAY too yellow and looks really 'not gold'. I have found this Chinese based jewelry 'store' to send real peridot, but, in a yellow 'gold' it does not look attractive. Luckily, I do know how to reset the stones. If you do not know how to do that, or do not want to do that, consider another Ebay place from which to buy your gemstone rings.
Watch, carefully, that the gemstone is genuine, by checking the complete description of the jewelry piece. Often, jewels are listed, first, as diamond, or tanzanite, opal, etc., then, when you read the actual description, you will find the words "simulant", "created", and those are NOT genuine.
Watch that the gold you believe you are buying does not say plated or electroplated on the description of the gold Vermeil is goldplate over silver. (It will turn colors). Gold tone is not gold. That simply means the color is 'gold colored'. Silvertone is not silver. Stones set in gold should be expected to cost more than stones set in silver. Be careful of your silver ring buys. Make certain that the ring CAN be sized, if you intend to size it. Remember that when a ring is described as being a sizable ring, that 2 sizes either way is the extent that most rings CAN be sized. Normally, it will cost you more to size a ring UP to a larger size than down to a smaller size. If you plan to have a ring sized, after you receive it, be certain you have asked your jeweler how much he will charge to size the ring you have in mind. Many jewelers will not size opals, as the opal must be removed before any sizing can take place. Opals break, easily, and many jewelers do not accept the responsibility of resetting an opal.
If you should receive an Ebay jewelry piece that has a stone missing, be certain to let the seller know, immediately. If you purchase an item with many stones, be sure to check this immediately. Recently, I ordered a beautiful bracelet with many lovely stones. When the bracelet arrived, one stone had fallen out, but WAS in the package. I let the seller know, right away. The seller refunded the money it took for me to have a jeweler 'fix' the bracelet. That's how it should work!
Buying jewelry is fun and very nice prices are to be had on Ebay for that jewelry! Being careful to read all the description of each piece, asking the seller questions before you commit to buy, will ensure you of a really joyous time in receiving these jewels. Shop carefully! Enjoy your treasures! Gladys
