RODENTS! RATS, HAMSTERS, GERBILS, GUINEA PIGS, etc....
Is your furry rodent friend breathing heavy or sneezing a lot? Chances are it's due to the kind of HOUSING or BEDDING you are using.
Here's a few little known secrets you can do to help save your furry friend WITHOUT having to spend $75 - $100 to walk into a Vets office, only to be diagnosed with RESPIRATORY INFECTION and sent home with an inexpensive (although they charge out the ying yang) prescription antibiotic!
I've raised and breed Fancy Rats for many years. They (as are all rodents) are very prone to upper respiratory problems. I prefer housing them in a glass aquarium tanks with a secure wire lid because it cuts down on air drafts and cold chills. So this should be your first move .... get your friend out of that wire cage!
Now that you have your best friend in a solid sided tank, you should ONLY be using ASPEN shavings or ASPEN pellets, Yesterday's News kitty litter or similiar PAPER style litter. NEVER EVER use CEDAR or PINE because they have natural oils which put off aromatics, and this is typically what causes the allergic reaction and sets off the sneezing and then starts all the respiratory problems.
Is your little friend already having breathing problems?
Then let's treat those symptoms of heavy breathing or sneezing. This is called an upper respiratory infection. Go the your local large pet supply store and look in the BIRD section (yes, I said BIRD section). They have 2 antibiotics for birds in pill form which can be crushed up and put into the drinking water. There are two different bird meds, so get the one with the AMOXICILYN!
Dissolve 1 tablet per 8 oz bottle. Treat everyday for one week. Then give them a week off, and if the problem persists, you can treat for another week.

NO, I am NOT a licensed VET, nor do I claim to be. You can use this information as you see fit, but it does not replace the professional opinion of an officially licensed VET. This is simply how we have ALWAYS treated our sick rodents here at our Rattery. It has ALWAYS worked for us and it has ALWAYS worked for everyone I have suggested it to. I am not to be held liable nor responsible should it NOT work for your little friend. I do wish you the best and I'm putting this information out there to help save rodent owners a lot of money, and hopefully save a lot of little rodent lives. Many humans just don't think that a rodent's life is worth going to the Vet and spending money on. So, hopefully this information will reach those who really need it. If you found this information helpful, pass it along to other RODENT OWNERS to help save a little rodent's life! Sincerely, PIXIEPETS
