Quilt clips transform your treasured baby quilts and adorable crib comforters into hanging artwork for all to see each and every stitch that grandma, mom, or a special aunt lovingly placed into the piece. There are two different types of quilt clips, and several different designs available.
TYPES
The two different types of quilt clips or hangers are a clamp clip and a compression clip. A clamp clip grasps the quilt between two “jaws,” much like a chip clip grasps the folded edge of a bag of chips. A design is usually placed in front of this type of clip so that the “jaws” are hidden. This type of quilt clip includes brands such as the Little Elephant Company, Pottery Barn Kids, Kidsline, and Carter‘s.

A compression clip is usually wood and is rectangular in shape with a knob on the front. With this type of clip, the quilt is slipped into the middle of the clip, and the knob is turned until the clip is compressed together tight enough to hold the quilt in place.

DESIGNS
Most brands offer a small selection of designs that include a standard star or circle that coordinate with most room décors. The Little Elephant Company offers more than 100 different designs so that you can actually create the set that goes best with your quilt or comforter. In addition, the Little Elephant Company can customize clips in most any shape and color.

HANGING
Hanging a quilt or comforter can be easy or frustrating. Most clips are hung from a nail or screw that is placed into the wall. The back of each clip may have single or double holes or keyholes. A single hole in the back of a clip will be easier than having two holes (times 2 or 3 clips) to worry about getting straight.
First measure the width of your quilt or comforter. You will want your clips approximately 2 to 3 inches from the edge, so note how far apart you desire the clips to be. Also, if your quilt or comforter is more than 36 inches wide, you may want a third clip to keep the center from sagging.
Next, ideally, use a laser level on the wall and mark where you plan to place your nails or screws. A crooked quilt is noticeable! If the clips have a keyhole mount, be sure to place the nail or screw straight into the wall. If using clips with a single hole, place your nail at a 45 degree angle to the wall for extra safety. This will keep your clips from sliding off the nail.
After placing the quilt into the clips, hang the clips onto the wall and enjoy your beautiful artwork.
