There is this new show on TV the last few weeks and it comes on a couple channels really really late in the mornings again too IF you are one to stay up at all odd ball hours to watch for it. The show is called I CAN MAKE YOU THIN.
Well. I am in fact an emotional eater and this guy or guru has really hit the nail on the head with this one!
He suggests to stop DIETING....I hate that word so. And do these simple techniques. 1. Eat What you want when you are hungry. 2.Put your Knife and Fork down while you chew and eat only in the kitchen at the table NOT in front of the TV or reading a magazine because research shows we eat more when we are distracted and especially at the Theatres watching movies. 3.This guy calls this: Eating Conscienciously. He suggests to eat with your eyes closed and to chew your food slowly like 20-40 times a bite and you will then tune into your tummy and signals from your body that you are full. And when you are Full: 4. STOP eating.....IF you are hungry again later do this same thing again and keep doing it and you will lose weight. ( And any remaining food on your plate when you get that full feeling signal from your body needs to go into the trash...do NOT finish everything on your plate...the key here is to leave some food on your plate...exactly the opposite of what we were taught when we were growing up...to finish your plate...NOT.
So I have been doing this and also cutting out the sodas as they are just empty calories!
Now for the emotional eater as I am:
This guy Paul is his first name I think. This guru says there is a simple technique to follow when you get or feel Overwhelmed and want to splurge on that SODA or Candy or Chocolate in times of stress or crisis. He claims this technique will remedy the craving and you will feel a sense of well being.
Guess What? It Works! This really does work!
When I feel overwhelmed or stressed or emotional or want to eat that chocolate or soda I always now do this:
1.Take my first two fingers and put them together and tap tap TAP lightly on the cheek bone under either my left eye or my right eye. Does not matter which hand or eye.
2.Tap Tap Tap lightly and gently on my chin.
3.Keeping my head straight lower my eyes to the right and now lower my eyes to the left.
4. Hum a tune doesn't matter what just hum ALL while still tapping these different stress points on your body I am telling you about.
5.Now Count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
6. Now roll your eyes around in a circle all the way around without stopping.
7.Now tap tap tap the back of your hand and then tap Tap Tap your opposite hand on your pink finger with your hand flat and open.
8.Now tap Tap Tap your cheekbone again. And repeat the process mentioned above til you feel calm and not want to eat or snack or get that soda.
This is accupressure and relieves the tension and overwhelming feelings you are feeling when you want to run for the chocolate and such as you are upset...like I do. Makes you feel calm again in no time at all!
Now I have the chocolate stash but I do not run to it when I get upset over my ex bugging me or harrassing me and so on.
And as for the weight.... I also started doing Yoga deep breathing exercise for 20 minutes each morning a workout I have actually been doing off and on for over 10 years now called Body Flex with Greer Childers and I find it a great stress reliever too, Rachel McLish for my arms workout 30 minutes a day & recently Hula dancing for weight loss 1 hour a day(actually 2 Hula workouts 30 minutes each) and I actually have dropped a dress size and weigh 10 less no time at all!
Try it it works and you will feel ever so much better!
I simply must remind myself to watch this guy again when he comes on TV ~ He is usually on the TLC channel or something like that once a week or so and then it repeats the show for the rest of the night every few hours in the wee hours of the morning so if you say miss the 9pm show then you can catch it again around 2 am or something like that. I can't wait to see this next technique he provides us with!
And he shows you people who have used these methods of his and have lost weight and no longer emotional eat like me!
