Quick Guide to buying knives.
1.) Look for a design that is pleasing to your eye.
Some people have an eye for knives. Some like wood and black steel. Someone else likes bone and mirror polished steel. A third person may like the tactical look with all black and mat finish. Whether its a wicked futuristic design, or a classic sheath knife nobody knows what you like like you do so pick one and bid.
2.) Look at the sellers feedback, if it is less than 90% I would look elsewhere.
Some people don't look at a sellers feedback and those folks get burned. Look at the feedback and look at what item or items the person sells. If they have been selling linens and cloth and now suddenly have knives ask questions.
3.) Look at the country of origin for the knife.
Some people forget this and end up paying too much for cheap China made knives. Always ask if the listing does not state the country that the knife is made in. Good knives come from Japan, Taiwan, Germany, USA, Italy, and several other countries. If a maker is not familiar to you look them up on the internet. Do a little homework it pays off in the end.
4.) Look at the steel used in the blade.
At a minimum a knife should have 420, AUS-4, or some other 400 series steel. Better knives will have 440, AUS-6, AUS-8, ATS-34, AUS-10, 154CM. Premium steels are; ATS-55, VG-10, BG-42, S30V, X-15,. The top of the heap in steels is ZDP-189 This is one incredible steel.
