Here is a quick and simple way to see if your coin is silver, or if buying a coin which is being sold as silver but you're not positive it is in fact silver.
This picture although small, shows three coins under a Kleenex.
All three coins are Kennedy half dollars, then first coin is a 1964 half dollar which is 90% silver, the outline of the coin shows a nice bright white outline through the Kleenex, the second coin is a 1968 half which is composed of 40% silver, the outline shows a little white through the kleenex, but not nearly as bright as the 90% silver half, the third coin is a 1995 half which has no silver in it and the outline through the kleenex has no white to it at all.
If Kleenex tissue is not readily available to you, then bath tissue paper also works.
It is a nice simple meathod to check if silver is in a coin!
