Use a Forward Press
When you are putting it is typical to stand over the ball and have your weight distributed on both sides of your feet.
One of the easiest ways to make sure that you strike a true blow on the golf ball is to have a slight forward press which will move the putter handle in front of the putter face.
Using a forward press will take some of the loft off of the putter so the ball does not skid once you hit it.
