Hi, I'm back with more details in lamp-o-drama! I have found more trickier in a most common quartz halogen lamps or bulbs at any type. Either in projector, stage/studio, and many other purposes. Many times, I purchased or store brought from here. I began to determine what problems with quartz lamp. Here is .....
*** REMEMBER THIS FIRST!!!*** You should alway read follow in completed instruction come with original package or wrapper supplied in package as well. Before starts using the quartz lamp. Be sure turned off the power switch or un-plugged from equippment unit and lamp need to be cooled before installing with new lamp (while relamping with different lamp). Avoiding to touch quartz lamp with bare hand or fingertips, oiling can contamination quartz while light is being turned on which causes divitrification quartz (meaning development with blisters) and may explodes quartz lamp (hot shattering glass can be dangerous and will burns severely). Otherwise, it possibles shorten lamp life when quartz being deteroriation within dusty, oils from body part, and moisture contacted. As always to be sure these lamp should be clean it at all timer before you started to use them again to better performance and prolong. Cleaner recommendation should be used with 100% to 70% isopropyl rubber alcohol with clean clothes but be sure do not moisture contact into lamp base. Let it dry before using them. Isopropyl alcohol is availability in local natural store and/or drug store which they sold as cheap, if it on sales.
Once upon on quartz halogen being storage so long after 30 years. Keep the mind folk, when you know mixed with cement into sidewalk (like replacing or repairing them). Huh? So, what happen next? When comes to changing with temperature and humity from long period time. Well, guess what??? Sidewalk shown new cracks. What can you find in quartz lamp? You know? It found in between glass stem part and lamp base, that stuff used by manufacturer progress with cement for secured bulb body into lamp base. Think again, what happen when aged progress undergoing with cement. In part disturbed with glass which develops to break or crack the glass when cement begun swell. So, what did you noticed? There is a coiled filament began discoloration if glass breaking though thin stem in between cermanic part and glued with cement which causes by leaking air into bulb body which filament turned dull metal allow to breaking down on conductor (means no longer good conductivity). You may notices that take these rarely quartz lamp shining with strong light (best result used in sunlight, easiest determined but don't directly into sunlight with your eye, it may causes serious blinded for life), you will able to see though quartz wall and stem where shown smearing up with frosted appearance but filament sparkling particles filled with darken or brownish (almost like crystalline particles), sometimes dull looking filament (not as shiny) with frosted surrounding by filament areas. Reason why, the filament is due with oxidizied which allows oxygen gas released out of the quartz body and filled with differently air. Oxygen gases allow filament burning by given off slow traffic molecule that stick into bulb wall in which means slowly blacken filling with bulb wall. Now, what will happens if you going to try with these rarely quartz lamp into fixture. It does lit-up, shown some kind discoloration light output behavior (illumination level fallen very quickly as sooner) and developing blacken very quickly then burned out earilier (last about couple seconds). Some case, it goes fully blown inside of the quartz as well given flashed (also "pop" sounded). A real good lamp shown with very less smeary quartz wall and filament should be shiny like a brand new dime coin.
When you tested these rarely quartz lamp with multi-meter and what you will get some results. I used with audiable continunity test and/or resistance continunity came from digital multi-meter (also, lighted continunity). Whenever you perferral or what best for you working with. In result, you will recieves one with rarely quartz lamp in which you know these lamp being bad. In resistance continunity multi-meter should be no reading scale in both analog meter and digital meter (good lamp drawns very little resistance reading in digital meter and very little movement on scale in analog meter). Audiable continunity should not have sound in both meters as well (good lamp will alarms in both meter). Lighted continunity recieved nothing (good lamp will lits up with lighted continunity test). Why you would used these thing? Because they affraid to light up with powerful quartz lamp in just reasons they don't know if quartz lamp can blow up or "hot" shattering glass (common dangerous) when comes to faulty lamp situation. Other reasons, if they being tires of per-test in each quartz lamp to make sure these lamps are alright. It take time to cooling lamp after change to next lamp test repeatly. Powerful quartz lamp took cooling off in couple minutes before changing the lamp.
