KNOW WHAT YOU'RE BUYING

There are many eBay sellers who do not post a class ring's metal, size, and/or gram weight, even though they've made thousands of eBay sales. If you're a seller, that looks very suspicious to a buyer: as if you don't know your product. Bidding won't be as competitive without these 3 details for a class ring. It's also a helpful detail to describe the condition of the stone, if there is one. When selling a class ring, it is very important to a buyer to know these 4 details in the item's description. A seller can bet that the more details given the more bids they'll attract.

When buying a class ring, don't presume that if a photo of a class ring looks yellow gold, it is either yellow or gold. If the item's description doesn't include the class ring's size, ask if a dime, nickle, or penny fits thru the opening. (See my guide on using coins to approximate a class ring's size). If the item's description doesn't include the gram weight, knowing the class ring's size is very useful. For instance, if a penny fits through the ring's opening, it is at least a size 9.5. As a buyer you can guess that size of ring will be heavier than one that a dime won't pass through (under a size 7.5).

If a seller has made thousands of eBay sales and still doesn't describe the size, metal (white gold, yellow gold, 10K, 14K, 18K, sterling silver, or neither gold nor silver at all), and gram weight (28.5 grams is an ounce of gold), ASK THE SELLER. There is usually some key reason why these item details are not posted on the class ring's page. If you are a buyer, the more details of the class ring in the item's description the better a buyer knows how much to bid or whether to bid at all.

There are usually around 300 class rings on eBay every day. The one's that don't have enough details in the item's description will be far less likely to be bid on. If you're a buyer who likes to risk a little money on a class ring no one else is bidding on, look for the eBay pages that don't include the 4 key class ring details: type of metal and color (petina), ring size, gram weight, and if the class ring has a stone, the condition of the stone. Don't rely upon pictures!

If you are a buyer who doesn't like to risk bidding on a class ring that doesn't include these details, ask the seller for them. Seller, if you don't know and tell what you're selling, you're not going to make a large profit on the class ring.

Finally, when you win a class ring, insure it to ship it so that you have to sign for it. Make sure the seller knows you've paid for insurance (in writing). Not buying insurance a buyer has paid for is seller postal fraud.
