The wonderful thing about Ebay is that it is a world community providing avenues for shopping far beyond what is available in the day to day brick and concrete world.   But like the real world, there are human concerns to deal with. This is a sort of elegant way of saying: there is no substitute for checking out feedback, and for asking questions.   The important thing you should know: you are far head if you know the line, and how the sizing runs. Lauren is cut larger in the main than Nautica, which is not so trim as Hilfiger.   Wilson Leathers tend in the main to be very true to size across the design spectrum. But the point is: sizes vary.   Ask for precise measurements:  with the item laid flat, have it measured from underarm seam to underarm seam, and from the collar seam to the bottom hem.  You also need to get the inside sleeve measured from the underarm seam to the end.  And then compare these to a garment that fits you precisely. Ask if there are strains or tears.  Leather repair -- assuming you can find anyone who can do it correctly -- tends to be expensive. A little quarter or half inch tear or rip can be from $30 to $60 to fix. Two or three abraded or torn areas will add up quickly.  Stains on lighter leather will drive you completely insane. And not everyone who advertises expert leather cleaning is an expert, or perhaps more kindly put, even the experts hit the wall.  So stay away from things that need repair or fixing, unless you really, really totally obsessively  want them, and are prepared to spend the extra money.  Vintage poses a special problem because leather, unless it is expertly cared for, sort of shrinks over time. And linings can be dry rotted entirely horrid ways. While resewing a seam is not especially an expensive fix, replacing a dry-rotted lining will vary tremendously from place to place.  A real tailor will charge you a fortune to do it: your neighborhood sewing lady might resew a lining for $20 to $30, but redoing one entirely will increase the cost a lot, given there is a wonderful feeling to having a new wool or silk lining put into a garment.  And remember, the population today is both taller and wider than say in 1970.  There are wonderful payoffs: I tracked won a Wilson leather distressed flight jacket  to replace one I lived in for three or four years, and wore to pieces. I also found an elegant new with tags Wilson flight jacket as a backup. I discovered an amazing heavy, double-breasted Structure coat which is true armor against both harsh winter days and dull moments. These were my payoffs from Ebay leather shopping persistence, but came at the expensive of learning much of what I have shared here.  There really are times when people wear something two or three or four times, and discover it just isn't them:, but this statement comes with a warning: there has to be a "why" someone is selling something they only wore a time or two, if that is the case.  Otherwise, you may discover the  "unwanted gift" jacket coming out of the box smelling of thift store disinfectant. So, ask. And look at the other things the person is selling.  If they are a regular dealer in previously worn clothing, you might suspect claims the garment is unworn, is an unwanted gift or is otherwise new without tags. The safer course is to search for new with tags garments, and to know what outlet and departments stores are selling  garments for at discount. A Wilson blazer costing $400 at full retail may be closed out for as little as $50. I saw a Lauren at Dillard's going for 75% off.  The extra research will save you a lot of frustration and hassles, and avoid disappointments. I am a real fan of leather: it dresses up and down so well, and is so practical. I live in a climate of  six month winters, it seems, and leather provides good protection as well as good looks for the dollar. It really is a budget wardrobe builder, if you think about how it can covers lots of niches: the same jacket or blazer works with jeans at the farmer's market
Saturday morning and at the little get-away Italian restaurant Saturday evening, and at all the chore stops in between.  Thanks for stopping by to read my review. /s/ Russ
