When you buy a piano, plan on it staying in your family for generations. Before committing to a piano purchase, it's wise to invite a technician into the seller's home or store for a complete estimate of piano value, damage (if any) and overview and cost of any necessary repairs. An expert piano technician will be able to tell you about what kind of environment your potential new piano was kept in, how well it was maintained, and what it will be worth in the next 20 years.
Aside from cosmetics, there are several factors to take into consideration, including the condition of the soundboard, pinblock, plate, strings, and action mechanism. Most of these are not visible to the naked eye, have a great impact on value, and need a professional examination to be certain of it's sound structure.
Please contact the Amadeus Piano Co., Inc. regarding an estimate on a piano you would like to purchase, or for a piano value appraisal.
