I have been collecting pulps for a relatively short amount of time yet I have had some good success so far. The best advice I can give you is to know what you are looking for. When searching for pulps you need to know off the top of your head what the cover looks like and know that it has the author that you want. Get pulp books to help you and do some more research. I recommend the book Pulp Culture. The reason why this is important is because the auctions that end at a decent price are the ones where the seller doesn't realize what he has. You need to be able to see a a glance what he has and know its value. Know the cover art, date and the years the author your collecting wrote in. I also always put my pulps in acid free bags and boards (the kind that you get at a comic store). This will help it stay in good shape and keep it from browning more. Ask sellers questions. As a seller I truly don't mind being asked questions. One more thing. Some authors have pen names. For instance, if you are a L Ron Hubbard collector, like I am, it would be good to know that he wrote under more than two dozen different pen (Pseudo) names. If you know them you will find more pulps for your collection and the seller may have no clue. Do your homework. Know the different pulp titles he wrote in. Know the price range. and help keep pulps in good shape for the next generation.
