When purchasing baby items or any items for that matter, it is imperative that they be washed or laundered before use or wearing. Baby's skin is very delicate ~ the dyes and chemicals in new clothing can be very harmful to the skin and their well being. Not to mention the process of production, packaging, handling and mailing. All items must be laundered or washed in mild detergent or soap and thoroughly rinsed and dried. Dishwashers are excellent in killing harmful bacteria. I no longer have a dishwasher so my usual way of disinfecting is a solution of mild soap, a very small amount of bleach and lots of water. This requires thorough rinsing!!
For Baby's clothing, bedding, bath towels, cloths and etc., it is best to stay with the same laundry detergent and not change unless absolutely needed. A mild detergent such as Dreft or Ivory Snow is best but not always affordable. Most times skin rashes and irritations are caused by a change in detergent, fabric softner, bath soap or shampoo.
So, remember to clean and wash thoroughly all items that Baby will come in contact with to keep him/her happy and healthy!!
