The best advice for any new consultant is to talk to anyone and everyone.  Next step is to get them your information.  There are a few great ways to do this.

  • People everywhere are potential clients.  Cashiers, shoppers, a woman walking by with a cute top on, servers.... you get the point.  Step outside your comfort zone and just talk to people.  What's the worst that can happen, they give you a funny look and walk away or just say no.  It's not like you know them, who cares what they think.  Of the 100 no's you may get, just think how many new clients you may get.
  • How do you start the conversation?  Ask if they love candles, makeup or whatever your product line is.  Compliment them on their makeup, jewlery, clothes.  Ask if they love getting free stuff.  Talk about how crazy lines or traffic getting to the store and how great it would be to be able to shop from home.  Be creative and spice it up.  People will know if its a line you use all the time, make it natural and just have fun.  You never know what a person will say or what you may learn from them.
  • Get them your information.  This can be as simple as a business card, but how boring is that.  Offer them a free sample or a brochure with your info on it.  Your info should include Name, Product Line, Phone Number and Website link or Email Address.  Its a lot less pressure for someone to write an email than pick up the phone and call you.  In my store I have items that are unique and will catch the eye of potential clients.  People will be more likely to pitch a card, but they will keep a sample, they will keep a mint matchbook or candy bar with a cute wrapper(especially if they know someone with an upcoming wedding or shower, they are poplular favors).  Maybe even give them 2 or 3 and ask them to pass it on to their friends who may be interested.
  • If things are going extremely well, keep a small notepad in your purse and get their info.  Promise to send them a catalog or call them with more info about how they can get your products for free.  When taking their info, be sure to leave yourself hints on who they are, such as their outfit,k where you met, or any key points from your conversation.  This step is important, make sure to follow up with them withing 2 days of meeting them.
