I thought I'd focus on three peticular types of dolls for this review; primitive dolls, Folk Art dolls and Raggedy Ann. What great collectibles they all are.
Primitive dolls are either genuine antique dolls from the late 1800's-early 1900's that were made in a very simple way. They were generally faceless and plain. Currently, here on eBay you can find some wonderful reproduction primitive dolls that are handmade by individual artists. Many of the primitive dolls you see today are quite full of characture compared to their genuine counterparts. You will find handmade black mammy dolls, primitive santa's, primitive animals and many more. If you enjoy sewing you can also make your own primitive dolls by purchasing some wonderful patterns from designers that list here on eBay. Overall, primitive dolls take us back in time. Back to the simple days and envoke our imaginations to what life was like back then.
Folk Art dolls are another style of simple dolls with their own characture. You can find many interpretation of what people consider folk art. It could be a style that is whimsical in nature or a distorted view. For example there are wonderful folk art paintings that show houses of mishappen shapes, unrealistic willow trees and sheep that are quite fat with legs that are way too long for their bodies. That's what's fun about folk art dolls, anything goes.
Raggedy Ann is a long time favorite! She's just a natural cutie and today she's depicted with some changes compared to her original counterpart. There are again some wonderful artists out there that create dolls, patterns, stitcheries as well as paintings of Raggedy Ann. You'll find some really creative and unique looking Raggedy Ann dolls these days and they just keep getting cuter and cuter. Some are even created quite primitive and are made to look very worn and old. There are some folks that are such huge fans of Raggedy Ann dolls that they have quite a collection. Take a peek at some of the great creative Raggedy Ann's that are offered on eBay today.
