Pricing : Marketing should include pricing analysis. Several major factors influence the pricing for a product or service. Strategic goals greatly influence pricing. For example, if the business really wants to get into a new market, then it might charge lower than usual prices in order to generate more customers who buy the service. The business might consider changing pricing if the demand for its products are very high or low. Competitor pricing also has a great effect. If competitors are charging much less, then the business might do well to lower prices. Similarly, if the competitor is charging much more, then the business might consider increasing its own prices.
In this pricing analysis, consider: Is your business recouping your costs (time, money, materials, etc.) to provide it? Is it affordable to customers? What about volume or other forms of discounts? What should be the new prices, if any? How do you know?
Ideally you would make profit on everything that you sell. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on the way you look at it, profit is not always the ultimate goal. You may price one item at or below cost because you need to acquire a critical mass of sales of that product. In the Internet business, it is somewhat popular to sell at break even or a loss on certain items just to add to your overall customer base for future sales.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS : According to an old saying, "You never get a second chance to make a first impression." Nowhere is this more applicable than in business situations, whatever the industry, because how you communicate with people the first time is key to your overall success. Why is this the case, today more than ever before? People are increasingly demanding of good customer service these days, especially as the nation's economy has rebounded, and they have more money to spend. In general, whether in a consumer or business-to-business capacity, most prefer to spend their money where they are treated well.
