I have recently come across some guides and blog entries discussing the pricing of items in the Metaphysical category. I was quite puzzled by those stating that ALL sellers offering items for more than 35 to 50 dollars were somehow less than honest and truthful and were in some way attempting to 'cheat' the buyers in this category.
Now I'm not sure exactly what the motivation is with these statements but I know that many objects and vessels have actual intrinsic value above and beyond the spiritual value, which in all actuality ought to be MORE than actual value.
If a 14k gold antique ring is valued at 500 dollars in the 'real' world, should it not be worth that much OR more if imbued with magick or spiritual energy???
I truly do understand the backlash from buyers who spend hundreds of dollars and get cheap costume baubles like one ring I recently saw sell for many thousands. I kept wondering, "if the blue glass stone that fell from an idols head made the owner mega-rich, WHY ON EARTH, WOULD THEY MOUNT IT IN A CHEAP ADJUSTABLE COSTUME SETTING???" I mean, it made them rich and they could not afford gold??? Made me go HMMMM......
When I see things like that, I very well understand WHY some question pricing in our wonderful category. But to put a price cap on all objects offered here is silly and ridiculous. If you want 'Kmart' magick-you can pay 'Kmart' prices on cheap shoddy items BUT if you want vessels that are worthy of their linked spirits and energies, know that you are paying for real items-REAL GOLD-REAL SILVER-REAL ANTIQUE OR VINTAGE-REAL STONES-REAL QUALITY.
The bottom line is this--some pieces are valuable because of age AND/OR material, actual intrinsic monetary value, add in the Spiritual Energy, Spell work, casting time, etc... and the price increases. I truly do not understand why some people believe we Metaphysical sellers/practitioners should offer truly quality items at cut-rate prices.
I recently sold an energetic spirited bracelet for a bit over 1,000 dollars--the vessel itself was a collectible regularly selling as a jewelry piece alone for 400 to 800 dollars or more. Did I get a fair price for my item? I believe so. Did the buyer get a fair deal for a powerful spirited energetic in a valuable vessel? I believe they did and more so, THEY believe they did!
So as prospective buyers of metaphysical objects, think about what you are getting on two levels, EARTHLY AND SPIRITUAL. Weigh actual value of the vessel and blend that with percieved value of the spirit, energy or magick assocciated with it-PRICE SHOULD BE A BLEND OF BOTH---with one thing sometimes outweighing the other.
