There has been a new upsurge in the prices in Lincoln cents with either the wide AM in America on the reverse or the close AM in America. I have found several in change, but it takes diligence since these are scarce, if not rare.
See the photo below to understand the difference. The key issue is to note the proximty of the bottom right serif of the A to the bottom left serif of the M and the relative distances between the two. Naturally, you will see a lot of the common issues, but it's exciting to get one of the rarities.
Starting the most recent issue, look for the:
-
Wide AM on 2000, 1999, and 1998 cents, and the
-
Close AM on 1992 D cents
The 1998 wide AM in about $20 in red MS 63
The 1999 wide AM is a whopping $300 - $400 in red MS 63
The 2000 wide AM is a respectful $10 in red MS 63
Currently, (early 2008) these are bringing some strong premiums in the market. Go to the PCGS.com site Price Guide at
pcgs.com/prices/PriceGuideDetail.aspx?MS=1&PR=1&c=45&title=Lincoln+Cent
to see the disparity in values.
Note: Ebay policy does not permit including links to PCGS so you will have to enter the entire url link as indicated above..
GOOD LUCK!
