Recently I did some experimenting with several formats of auctions for the same exact item.
Long story short...I invested in a lot of 1,000 movie magazines, hoping to turn around and resell them individually to fund my upcoming tuition for college. However, upon receiving the 1,000 magazines (which were purchased sight unseen) I discovered that there were only 15 unique titles. Which means I had upwards of 125+ copies of some titles. Anyway in my effort to recoup for my stupidity for not requesting pictures...I decided to start listing lots of them on eBay. I tried several different formats. Choosing 5 of the titles that I had the MOST copies of, I created 3 different presentations.
1) Minimum Bid $4.99 + $5.00 P&H or Buy It Now $9.99 with Free Postage.
2) Buy It Now $14.99 or Best Offer with Free Postage
3) But It Now .99 cents with $8.01 postage.
Amazingly, #3 was the cheapest deal, if only buyers did the math! But no one would buy!
Had 4 people do the BIN on #1
And one gave me a $10.00 offer on #2, which I took, because that was really the price I wanted out all the lots!
Currently I am running 10 lots solely as $9.99 Buy It Nows. Seems sort of wasted effort to even go with the .99 deal with $8.01 postage, even if it is cheaper, because NOBODY TAKES TIME TO DO THE MATH!!! And, I'm certainly not above taking an extra $1.00 for the same item... :-)
