Looking for an easy craft for that preschooler that LOVES to use scissors? Here's a good one that is also great for fine motor development!
Materials:
- Orange, black and green construction paper.
- Larger piece of kraft paper or poster paper
- Black pen
- Light gel pen or paint
- Child's blunt end safety scissors
- White glue or glue stick.
Instructions:
- Draw the outline of a pumpkin on the orange construction paper with a black pen. (Make the pumpkin round and simple with little detail for ease of cutting.)
- Draw the outline of a jack-o-lantern eyes, nose, and mouth on a piece of black construction paper with a light gel pen or light paint pen to show up against the black. (Use either circular shapes or triangles for ease of cutting.)
- Draw the outline of some leaves and a square stem on the green construction paper. (Make these easy to cut as well. On the example that I show, I drew heart shaped leaves....but I cut them out myself.)
- Instruct your child to cut around the pumpkin and the eyes, nose and mouth with the safety scissors.
- You may opt to cut out the leaves while your child is cutting the easier pieces.
- Allow your child to glue the leaves and other features on the pumpkin as they wish. (Sometimes your pumpkin won't always look like a traditional one.)
- Hang in your house for a great Fall/Autumn decoration!
