I have purchased many articles of clothing from other eBay sellers. I learned there are many ways to package the clothing and some arrive looking far nicer than others. I used to wrap the clothes I sold in tissue paper and then pop them into the box or mailing envelope. This was not bad, and I had seen others do the same. One day I received a couple of items from a seller who offered combined shipping. When I opened the box I found clean, neatly folded articles of clothing, each wrapped in a 1 MIL plastic bag and taped closed. Sitting atop the three bags was my invoice.
Professional but Personal
I found this to be the most professional way of delivering clothing items to my customers. I wrap each item as soon as I list it. I label the item and place it on the shelf, ready for shipment when the customer makes his purchase. I use 1 MIL clear plastic bags which I tape closed. When my customer makes his purchases, I gather the items together and place them in a shipping box or poly mailer, include my business card, on the back of which is my 10% off offer for returning customers, and the printed invoice, hand signed, thanking my customer for his business.
This method of packaging accomplishes the following:
- Keeps the clothing fresh, either brand new or freshly laundered
- Minimizes wrinkling
- Keeps clothing better protected from the elements, including rain and smoke, during shipping.
It was right there before my eyes
When I reflect back on my earlier days of shipping clothing, it never occurred to me that when I order from a catalog house, each item arrives in a plastic bag. So, though many of my items are pre-owned clothing, I should still present them in the best possible way to ensure safe delivery in the condition stated in my auctions.
I hope this has been a tip you can employ in your eBay clothing sales.
Extra Tip
Oh, and two tips for one….I buy my 1MIL clear plastic bags from other eBay sellers. I purchase the majority of my shipping supplies here.
