Potpourri a magickal solution to those who have asthma.  When my grandson was born he was diagnosed with asthma.  We were trying to figure out a way to use Incense in our circle without him having to be left out due to the damage the smoke would cause on his lungs.

Enter the solution POTPOURRI!  Smokeless and Effective! You can adjust the scent by tha amount of oil you use in it. Either stronger or weaker.

We use potpourri every time his is with us at ritual.

Now me being an Herb Witch I simply love the smell and feel of Fresh Herbs so this makes for a great way to tap into the earth energies.

Some basics on making your own Potpourri:

You will need:

Fixative: This is something that will help hold the scent in the blend. I like Orris Root (floral scent) or Cedar Chips (earthy scent).

Essential or Fragrance Oils: These will be mixed with the fixative before adding to the herbs. Either type of oil is fine for this but I strongly suggest using Essential Oils for all ritual workings.

Dried Herbs: This will depend on what type of look or spell you wish to achieve.  Some good basic herbs are: Roses, Pine Cones, Lavender, Orange & Apple Slices, Cinnamon Sticks, Patuka Pods, Rose Hips,Lemon Verbena Leaves, Almost any Herb, Flower, Bark, Pod or Seed can be used. Get Creative with this it is very cost effective and fun to work with!

Decorations: I like Glitter for this. You can also add anything like sea shells, river rocks, wicker spheres, large pods and anything that give your potpourri a nice full look!

Now I myself like to give my Potpourri a really great smell and look.  I am very in tune with the senses.  I always keep a fresh bowl of Calming Potpourri by my front door so that when guest come in I have already set the stage for a calm visit.

So next time your shopping for magickal wares try some potpourri! Save the Lungs!
