FRAMED / GLASS
If an item is framed, rather ask the Seller to remove the glass, as more often than not, the glass cracks / breaks, and can tear your artwork to shreds. It is worth the small cost of buying another sheet of glass, preferably U-V treated, when the item arrives.
POSTERS, PICTURES, PHOTOGRAPHS and PRINTS
Ask the Seller how these were Reproduced. For instance were they printed through a proper lithographic or similar process ? Is the item on glossy, matte or semi-glossy paper ? How thick is the paper ?
The biggest problem here is that several of these items are printed on Laser Printers these days and will fade over time. You want a proper printing process with good quality ink that will stand the test of time. So ask the Seller these questions.
When you hang your item, do not hang in direct sunlight, or if you have to, ask the company who frames it for you, to add Ultra-Violet protection to prevent fading and discoloration.
PAINTINGS
Be very careful of Sellers offering supposedly Original Paintings supposedly signed by the Original Artist. Just about any good antique dealer or art dealer near you will quickly tell you if it is the real thing. If you do buy a painting, ask a professional how to protect it from the elements.
Hope my own experience above helps you. Happy eBaying ! Mark Rose-Christie
