It is not easy to write a complete pool table listing, especially on a used one by a table owner. A lot of information does not come to mind or is unknown. But, hopefully, my suggestions would help eBayers list tables' information to the best of their ability.

Well, I am in no way a billiards specialist, I sell high quality European contemporary home furniture and accessories. So, I could definitely understand if some people disagree with me on a few points. But I am also a customer looking for a good quality contemporary style pool table to match my beautifully renovated contemporary furnished game room. I personally consider billiard tables to be part of home decor.

When you are listing your table for sale your main idea (I believe) is to get rid of it as soon as possible. Your trash will become someone's treasure. Therefore, people looking for bargains would want to know everything there is to know about an item to help them determine it is a bargain. The price itself in this case is only relevant to the quality of that particular table; pool tables range from dirt-cheap to outrageously expensive.

As we all know internet is the #1 information tool today. It helps people search, review, learn, compare and create an opinion about anything they put their mind to. Always assume that customers looking at your item have already done their homework. So, try to be specific.

1. Table size 7', 8' or 9' must be indicated in the title, otherwise searching becomes a waste of time. "Nice looking barely used pool table" just does not do. A billiard table is a technical item that only comes in three major sizes, people are looking for one of those three.

2. Always include a picture showing the whole table. Any additional detail  pictures are always helpful. People are looking by style, they want to see if the table has Queen Ann legs or tapered bases. This is the first thing they will be looking at, unless they are planning to keep it in their garage. Include the name of the manufacturer, it will help you a great deal. Please specify what finish (color) it is, colors come out differently on monitors. Felt color is not as important, as in most cases it would need to be replaced anyway.

3.  Always specify if there is a slate bed in 1, 2 or 3 pieces and if the thickness is 3/4", 7/8" or 1". You don't need anyone bothering you with these questions. And if this is the table for their "garage placement" it will be the first piece of information to list (forget the Queen Ann legs). It is not hard to determine or measure, just do your best.

4. As it is described in the very good "Pool table buying guide" here on e-bay solid wood rails, K-66 profile cushions and the fact that the rails should attach to the frame through holes in the slate itself must be specified as the next most important point in your description. If you don't know you can be excused, but people will still ask you.

5. Table's age needs to be specified. What year you purchased it and whether you are the first or the second owner.

Everything else, including that your wife is kicking your table out because you are constantly having friends over or that you need to part with your favorite game to make room for the ever growing amount of your kids' toys or that you are moving and there will be no room in your new home may help you earn compassion, but will never help you sell your table.

Remember we are virtual shoppers (as well as sellers) constantly striving to save prescious time. We can not touch, feel, peek into a hole or, in this case, we can not shoot a game to realize how good a table is. The only way we can buy or sell successfully is by using visual and descriptive information. And if we can save each other's time by providing or finding that useful information then, in my opinion, we will always gain something valuable.
