Poodle Skirt Buying ABC's : eBay Guides

Need help choosing the perfect Poodle Skirt for yourself or daughter? Here's a few helpful tips, I hope you will find useful.

 B. Check listings for proper size. Make sure you measure yourself or daughter around the waist & length before bidding. Make sure it is the proper length for you or your daughter. Poodle skirts were meant to be a longer than the trendy little short skirts of today. If it's too short, you will not have a great look. Crinolines / Petticoats will make skirt appear shorter.

  C. Work with seller before bidding. Ask questions & ask for more pictures. Not all computer monitors see the same colors. Colors may appear differently on the screen, than in person. If in doubt, ask your seller for a swatch of fabric. Most will be happy to send you small swatches of fabric.

  D. Ask for close-up pictures of their applique work.

  E.  Is the Poodle applique large enough to be seen across the room or can it easily be seen if your daughter is on stage? 

  F. Is it a full circle poodle skirt or an A line?  If it is a true circle skirt, you will be able to see the fullness of the skirt from the pictures.  With a circle skirt, you can wear a crinoline or petticoat underneath to give it extreme fullness. If it is an A line skirt, you will not have the same fullness & a crinoline would not be effective.

  G. Several seamstresses use different methods for the waistband. Some will use a zipper & waistband. If you choose this method, make sure you have your correct measurements. There will be no room for errors.

  H. If choosing a skirt with an elastic waist, you'll have a better chance of getting a good fit. Skirts with elastic waists will generally fit a wide range of sizes depending on your or your child's height & weight. Most will have added stretch for growing children.

  I. The weight of the skirt or even dancing can cause narrow or thin elastic to give & let skirt slide down. I suggest using 1.5" to 2" wide elastic. Ask seller how wide the elastic is that they use.

  J. Some seamstresses use wide elastic without a fabric casing, which gives the skirts more of a professional finish & makes it unnecessary to wear a belt, unless you prefer to wear one. Elastic waistbands without fabric casings are quite comfortable & lays flat against the body.

Do's & Don'ts:

  Do measure yourself or daughter correctly! Measure about 2 inches above the belly button. Measuring tape should NOT be loose against the body. Poodle skirts were NOT made to ride low, underneath belly button or on the hips.

  Don't measure yourself or child over clothes. Measuring tape should be against the skin, not twisted. If you purchase a skirt with an elastic waistband.... you'll want the waistband to be about 2 inches smaller than your actual waist measurement for a good fit.

  Do work with the seller before bidding. If you need an exact color match, ask seller for fabric swatches before bidding.

  Don't bid on several skirts, then pick & choose the one you want. That's not how eBay works & it could cost you a negative or worse, a strike.  

  Do read ebay's rules before bidding for a pleasant transaction for both you & the seller.

  Do read Community (located at the top of every page) for some good advise, if you have a problem or any questions.
