Police badges...so many being offered, but so few are worth your time, let alone your hard earned money. I have been collecting police badges since 1978 and I have learned the hard way.
First, don't be afraid to ask someone who is actually knowledgeable and honest about a badge you have a question on. But be aware if they say it's a piece of junk, but how much you want for it? Then you found someone who is knowledgeable, but not honest.
Second, read all you can about this hobby on the internet. When I started it was word of mouth by telephone and snail mail. Now you can send a picture to someone across the country in 10 seconds...if you have DSL!
Unfortunately eBay will not allow me to post any photos of badges for comparison. I am willing to answer any questions about badges that someone might have so please feel free to contact me by reading my profile page. If you send me scans of a badge I can show you how to compare different types of pins and catches, different types of plating and wear patterns, and hallmarks among other things.
