A Complete List of Pokemon Cards
Guide #1 - All Pikachu Base - Base Set 2
Introduction
When you clicked on this guide you may have been thinking that this would be a simple list of the (ENGLISH) Pikachu cards that have been created over the years. This guide is that - however, this guide is also going to explain the differences in some of the Cards.
Base Set Pikachus
There are a total of 7 different pikachu between the different printings of Base Set. This is the largest number of different cards aside from the promotional set. The reason is that there were very many printings of the Base set by Wizards of the Coast during the height of Pokemon popularity. (There were 5 TOTAL Printings of the base set - one 1st edition - and 4 Unlimited)
1) 1st edition Red Cheeked Pikachu (error)
2) 1st edition Yellow Cheeked Pikachu
3) Unlimited Shadowless Pikachu
Shadowless pokemon are not error cards. The Shadowless term is used for cards from the 1st printing of the unlimited base set, before the shadow was added by Wizards of the Coast to make the cards appear more attractive. You can tell this appart from the other unlimited Pikachu in a number of ways. a) Different colorization (The picture will look the same as the 1st edition)
b) Fine Text
c) The copy write date will list the year 99 Twice.
4) Unlimited Red Cheeked Pikachu (error)
5) Unlimited Yellow Cheeked Pikachu - 2nd Prining
This is the most common Pikachu card that you will find here on e-Bay.
6) Unlimited Yellow Cheeked Pikachu - 3rd Printing
The 3rd printing of the Unlimited base set series looks exactly like the 2nd printing. I am still researching how to differentiate. If you can tell the difference please let me know.
7) Last Print Unlimited Yellow Cheeked Pikachu
The last printing of the Unlimited Base Set is only slightly different from the rest of the prints. The copy write was changed to read "1999 - 2000 Wizards" on the bottom, instead of simply "1999 Wizards"
Jungle Pikachu
Jungle pikachu is particularly popular because of its colorization and because pikachu really stands out in this card when compared to the Base Set versions. In this set there are only 4 different versions of pikachu.
1) 1st edition Pikachu
2) 1st edition BLACK STAR PROMO Pikachu #1
This particular card may not seem like it should be included. However, this Promotional card was inserted into very few Jungle 1st edition booster packs. The card is very rare, and at the time of this writing, can fetch a price of well over $100.00
3) Unlimited Pikachu
Again, this is one of the more common e-Bay cards
4) PRERELEASE W Stamped Pikachu
Fossil Pikachu
Fossil set is the first expansion to not include any Pikachus. :(
Base Set 2 Pikachu
This 2000 release was the first expansion to only have an unlimited printing. This means that there is only one Pikachu to collect from this set. As you can see, the picture is the same as the Base set, with the exception of the Base Set 2 expansion symbol printed on it.
