Hello From FASHION DC in Colorado USA,
Not all plus size fashions flatter your figure.
Follow these hints for a more flattering wardrobe....
<-Plus size L/XL shrug: by our in-house designer
1. Wear downward lines and sharply sloping lines to create visual height (see picture above)
2. Avoid visual crosswise lines at the waist, hips and anywhere you don't want the eye to focus.
3. Wear monochromatic ( all one color or color family with similar intensity).
4. Choose details in the clothing that accentuate:
A. Your face, neck and accessories
B. Your shoes & pants hem
C. Your wrists and the cuffs of long sleeves.
5. For Narrow shoulders and wider hips - wear items with shoulder pads (not too thick) and items with crosswise lines above the bust at the shoulders.
6. Wear slinky fabics and items that skim the body. Wearing too tight items will draw the eye to areas you really don't need to accent.
7. Wear what looks good on YOU, not what's "in style" at the time
8. Wear (if you like) printed fabrics that are a bit large to make your size appear more in proportion.
It's all about VISUAL PROPORTION. If you feel you can't be your own judge on an outfit or item, get a friend to help.
Reading books on the subject will help as well. Look in the personal appearance section at the library and book store. Dressing for Success and Color Me Beautiful are very good books to try.
