Games based on the Build engine were the best of the era, even though sound and graphics don't compare with modern games, but were very imaginitive for their time, such as Shadow Warrior, Monolith's Blood, and Duke Nukem 3D. All of these games pop up on Ebay from time to time, and a common complaint is that they aren't playable on XP or Windows 2000. This is due to conflicts in sound and graphic management by modern cards.
There is an excellent website at (www dot buildxp dot deathmask dot net) that details how to set the games up with a few simple downloads, and by following the instructions exactly, you can these games up and running without too much trouble.
I've played them all without too many problems, although I've found that if you try to switch between the game and Windows during play you can lock up your computer. I take no credit for any of the information on this web page, I am just passing it on to those of you who want to play and enjoy the games, and haven't yet been able to. All credit goes to the web master Matt Bovett.
Someone who didn't like this guide used the voting feature to slag all of my reviews and guides, so let me explain that I wasn't using this guide to score points, just to inform people that there are resources to help you get your game up and running. Clearly some juvenile insecurity prompted this Ebayer to retaliate and cut up all of my work, rather than contact me on how to improve it. If it helped you, please vote, if it didn't let me know, and I'll rework it. Cheers.
