Do I just plug it into the wall? What else do I have to buy?  Will my DVD player work on it?  What is the difference between HDTV and regular TV?

I was just asked all of these questions so I decided to find out some answers and share some of the knowledge!  This is a very simple version so everyone can understand it and enjoy it.  The first thing you will notice is the picture quality.  The picture on a Plama High Definition Television (HDTV) is amazing, it will literally feel like you are there at the ocean and can reach out and touch it!  You can use your current cable box and still see the everything in better clarity, but most cable providers and satellite providers will provide you with a HDTV box at no additional cost.  The advantage is that there are some channels that are broadcast in HDTV that the regular box will not be able to unscramble.

Will I have to buy a new DVD player?  No.  Your current DVD player and DVD's will play just fine on the new TV, but the picture will be amazing!  Plasma will definitely take them to the next level and the picture quality will be amazing.

    Now for some additional costs.

With the increase in popularity of HDTV, many cable and satellite providers will also offer a specific HDTV package.  For example, our local Time Warner offers 14 additional channels specifically for HDTV.  There is an ESPN channel, 2 HBO channels, 2 Showtime channels, some On Demand Channels, and a few others.  Locally it is only an additional $6.95 a month and it is basically just a signal that is sent to your HDTV box that you received from them.  They also have the Digital Video Recorder or DVR which is available.  That is where you can pause, rewind or fast forward live TV.  This also is used with HDTV and this one is $4.95 per month and is separate from the HDTV package.  You can have either one, or both.  Check with your local provider to see what they have to offer.

An additional technology is also appearing in the HD market.   There are now HD players and HD discs.  Each one is designed specifically for each other and they can only work with one another.  You cannot play HD discs in a regular DVD player.

I hope this brief summary helps you understand the new era of why Plasma HDTV's are becoming more popular and gets you excited about really SEEING TV!  Thanks for reading and happy eBaying!

If you learned something that you didn't know before, please take a second to rate this review.  Thank you!
