Pitted Pots & Pans...

When boiling water, say for pasta, if you are going to add salt -

WAIT, until AFTER the water is boiling to add the salt.

Otherwise it will pit your pots. (Especially after years and years of doing

 this... I wish I'd known about this sooner.

 

My Theory on why this happens:

Before the water starts boiling the salt just falls to the bottom of the pan - next to the heat source. I had always wondered about that, but didn't really think aboutit, cause the pans were old by the time I starting using them anyway, I thought they were supposed to like that after 20-30 years.

So I guess waiting for it to boil first then adding the salt, the 'currants' carry the salt around until it dissolves so it doesn't harm the pot.

Just my thoughts...
